Listening the following recommendations from Ana Zuñiga Rivera, MD, founder of Campagin Medicos Solidarios in Arequipa, pediatrician neonatologist - Private Clinic San Felipe, Lima - Perú. Subject: what did we achive with vaccines? What are they for? Recommendations
As a pediatrician I know the immense value that vaccination has in our children, said doctor Zuñiga.
In a report made by Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to analyze the impact of vaccination in the Americas; they wrote in relation to polio, that 234,000 cases of polio were reported between 1950 and 1955, there were no reported cases during 2014 thru 2019.
As for measles, there were 1,000,000 reported cases between 1980 and 1984; there were only 20,000 cases and all associated with the decrease in immunization coverage between 2014 and 2019.
15,000 cases of death were reported from Rotavirus until 2018. Currently, just 22 annual cases of death are reported from this virus.
The success of these vaccines was because of the large number of children who were vaccinated at that time. Now, Peru and the world has been ravaged by a pandemic, we have a hope and it is the vaccine, but it will not do any good if I get vaccinated and you don't. We all have to get vaccinated. It is the only way to reduce the number of deaths, the only way that our friends don’t die, that our family don’t die, that our doctors and nurses don’t die. Perú is in our hands, put your shoulder in this cause! Finalize the interview doctor Ana Zúñiga Rivera.
Fighting against the pandemic, prevention is the best arm!
